Advanced DRO with Scaling and Segment Error Compensation

The Magnescale LH71 is an advanced digital readout (DRO) system designed for milling machines, lathes and precision machine tool applications. Building on the capabilities of the LH70, the LH71 introduces advanced scaling, segmented error compensation and enhanced datum functionality, making it an ideal solution for manufacturers requiring higher levels of accuracy and machine compensation.

Available in 1, 2 and 3-axis configurations, the LH71 provides powerful machining functions whilst maintaining the reliability and ease of use that have made Magnescale systems popular worldwide.

Possible successor to LH31A, LH52 or LH51 displays

Key features

  • Segmented Error Compensation – Unlike standard DRO systems, the LH71 can divide the measuring range into up to 32 sections and apply compensation individually to each section, improving machine accuracy over the entire travel range.
  • Scaling Function – A programmable scaling factor from 0.100000 to 9.999999 allows the LH71 to be used in specialised applications requiring coordinate scaling or ratio compensation.
  • Advanced Programming Capability – Store machining coordinates and programmed operations with capacity for up to 850 program steps.
  • Multiple Datum Points – Store up to 150 datum points for rapid setup and repeatable machining operations.
  • Angle Display Function – When used with compatible Digiruler systems, the LH71 can display angular measurements as well as linear positioning information.
  • High Visibility LED Display – Bright seven-digit displays provide clear position feedback in workshop environments.

Benefits of the Magnescale LH71

  •  Improved machining accuracy through advanced compensation functions.
  • Faster setup with extensive datum point storage.
  • Suitable for milling, drilling and turning applications.
  • Programmable machining functions reduce operator workload.
  • Compatible with Magnescale magnetic scales and Digiruler systems.
  • Resistant to oil, coolant, vibration and workshop contamination when paired with Magnescale scale systems.
  • Simple integration with Magnescale SR138R (GB-ER), SJ700A and PL20C measuring systems.
  • Suitable for both retrofit and new machine installations. (This suitability follows from the LH70 being a counter compatible with multiple Magnescale scale systems; the sources do not explicitly discuss retrofit projects.)

Milling Machine Functions

The LH71 includes dedicated machining functions to improve productivity and reduce setup time:

  • Bolt Hole Circle – Displays coordinates for equally spaced holes around a selected pitch circle diameter.
  • Line Hole Function – Calculates coordinates for equally spaced holes along a straight line.
  • Simple Radius Cutting – Provides coordinate calculations to assist with radius machining operations.
  • Programmed Machining – Insert machining cycles into programmed routines for repetitive operations.

Lathe Functions

For turning applications, the LH71 provides:

  • Tool coordinate management.
  • Addition functions for compound calculations.
  • Diameter display capability.
  • Enhanced reference point handling.
